SPM Girls Soccer Edges Doherty, 4-3

Guardians use balanced attack to earn first victory of the season

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 4, 2019) - The St. Peter-Marian girls soccer team opened its 2019 season campaign this afternoon, posting a 4-3 victory over Doherty High School at Guardian Field.

The Guardians used a balanced attack with four players netting scores in the contest. Sophomore Ava Kapurch (Charlton, MA) opened the scoring for SPM, while senior Alexis Barnes (East Brookfield, MA) also added a first half marker. Seniors Kellie Bushe (Worcester, MA) and Kyleigh Wasilak (Worcester, MA) both notched second half scores to clinch the SPM victory.

With the win, head coach Laura Poovakad earns her first career victory as a Guardian.

St. Peter-Marian (1-0) will be back in action on Monday as it hosts St. Bernards at 3:30 pm.
