SPM Girls Hockey Poised For Second Straight Post-Season

Guardians claim 17th seed in MIAA Division I tournament

WORCESTER, Mass. (February 26, 2019)– The St. Peter-Marian girls hockey team claimed the 17th seed in the 2019 MIAA Division I Girls Hockey playoffs as announced by the league office. The Guardians will travel to 16th seed Hingham High School on Wednesday evening at 6pm.

The opening round contest between St. Peter-Marian and Hingham will take place at Pilgrim Ice Arena in Hingham, Massachusetts. Admissions for the contest is $7 for adults and $5 students/seniors.

St. Peter-Marian qualified for its second straight post-season after collecting a program-best 13-7 mark over the 2018-2019 campaign. Eighth grader Emily Hamann (Marlborough, Mass.) led all of Central MA in scoring with 41 points, boasting a district best 24 goals and 17 assists. Classmates Gina Richard (Northborough, Mass.) and Gretchen Swartz (Bolton, Mass.) have also cracked the top 10 scoring list in Central MA, collecting 29 points and 26 points respectively.

In net, freshman Mia Dang (Worcester, Mass.)ranks among the top district goaltenders, notching a minimal 1.63 goals against average over 16 games played. 

The winner of Wednesday's contest will advance to first round action of the 2019 MIAA Division I Girls' Hockey tournament to square off against top-seeded Austin Prep.
