SPM Boys Soccer Earns Second Consecutive MIAA Tournament Berth

#12 SPM battles #5 Douglas in first round action Saturday evening

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 2, 2018) - The St. Peter-Marian boys soccer team collected its second straight District Tournament berth as it was selected as the 12th seed in the 2018 MIAA Division III Central MA District playoffs. 

The Guardians, under direction of head coach, Joe Simone, notched a 4-4-1 record this season among its Division IV opponents, coupling a pair of victories over North Brookfield and St. Mary's with a tie against Abbey Kelly to clinch. Junior Kyle Hesselton (Leicester, Mass.) led the Guardians offensive attack all season, while newcomer Nazif Vardar (Worcester, Mass.) also played a pivotal role. In net, senior Christian Bateman (Worcester, Mass.) saw a bulk of the action between the pipes, posting a pair of shutouts on the season. 

St. Peter-Marian will travel to fifth-seeded Douglas High  tomorrow evening for a match starting at 8pm. The match will be held at Milford High School.  The winner of tomorrow's contest will advance to the quarterfinal match up vs. the winner of #13 North Brookfield and #4 Maynard.
