Kapurch and McEvoy belt two hits; Liston goes 6.1 strong innings
WORCESTER, Mass. (April 26, 2018) - The St. Peter-Marian baseball team battled the Pioneers of St. John's this afternoon in Central MA Conference action, falling 5-4 over seven innings at Guardian Field.
In the contest, St. John's jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but the SPM posted a pair of runsin the fourth and sixth innings to take a 4-1 lead into the final frame. The Pioneers rallied however, positng four runs in the seventh and held the Guardians scoreless for the 5-4 victory.
At the plate, sophomore Aidan McEvoy (Upton, Mass.) and classmate Jared Kapurch (Worcester, Mass.) collected two hits apiece to lead SPM, while senior Matt Dumphy (Worcester, Mass.) added a hit and one RBI.
On the mound, senior Carter Liston (Holden, Mass.) tossed 6.1 strong innings for the Guardians, yielding four runs, three earned on seven hits while striking out four.
St. Peter-Marian (2-4, 1-1 CMC) will be back in action tomorrow as it travels to Nashoba Regional at 4pm.
